I am speechless! Our Peruvian soccer team is showing a splendid game strategy. Recently, they have been playing 14 undefeated games. They say the number 13 is bad luck, but I think that number deserves a chance. And that opportunity came in game 13 in Venezuela when they tied them 2-2. From there until now, there have been 4 draws and 10 victories that started with the match with New Zealand in Lima, where we defeated them and qualified for the World Cup. Ending these matches with Saudi Arabia defeating it 3-0, with two goals by Paolo Guerrero, in his return to our team after being cleared to play after a 7-month ban by FIFA which was temporarily lifted by the Swiss Supreme Court.

In the game against Saudi Arabia, Peru was very aggressive, recovering the balls at every moment, making excellent plays, moving through the field without fear. Andre Carrillo, at 19:58 minutes, in a great left-footed shot scored the first goal. Forty minutes after several attempts, Edision Flores tried an arc shot that was blocked with difficulty by the goalkeeper. Paolo Guerrero took advantage of that and situated himself strategically in position and he scored the second goal. Guerrero came back as the star striker for Peru. But it didn’t stop there. On the second half, Carrillo ran along the sideline and after dribbling a defender, he kicked the ball right where Paolo was positioning himself, whom with a powerful header, scored the third goal for the team at 64 minutes and the second score to his account. A fantastic play that made the stadium vibrate by an elated Peruvian crowd and had other Peruvians around the world cheer in unison.
Now comes the last friendly game before the World Cup, this Saturday 9th against Sweden. The result of this match does not matter much because the 23 definitive players have been already nominated. What matters is that no one is injured and that coach Gareca makes his final selection of the players who will face Denmark on June 16th, our first match in the World Cup, where we heartily expect a much-needed victory. Yes, we can!
